Education
While studying at the
University of California at San Diego, I worked in the Plasma and High Energy Physics Departments, building complicated custom electrical devices. I was also certified as a machinist.
Graduation
I graduated from UCSD in 1987, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
General Atomics
My first job after University was at
General Atomics, working for their High Energy Physics Research lab.
Unisys
Next, I worked as a Test Engineer at Unisys, writing software controlling expensive test equipment.
UCSD Webmaster
I returned to UCSD just in time for "Gopher" to appear, then in 1993 the World Wide Web. I was UCSD's first official Webmaster, helped launched InfoPath, the official campus Web site. I got to work at the beautiful Central (now "Geisel") Library. I also worked with San Diego State University (SDSU), helping their launch the first digital version of their online catalog.
Outside The Box
The dot-com boom was taking off in the late 1990s, and in 2000 I incorporated
Outside The Box along with Sean Simpson, a co-worker at UCSD. Since then, OTB has designed, developed, launched, maintained and marketed hundreds of Web sites, email campaigns, and other Internet Marketing efforts for business large and small, public and private.
County of San Diego
One of my largest contracts was as a consultant to BearingPoint, acting as UI Lead to a team overhauling the County of San Diego's property tax system. I led a team of 10 front-end developers, and acted as liaison to a team of 100 Java developers.
